In today’s society leadership development is vital for all young people, especially young women. As we know from experience and extensive research young women who become leaders are self-motivated toward reaching defined goals. They are confident in their abilities, skills, and intrinsic value, and therefore avoid negative peer pressure.
Link to Power! The Girls Leadership Council is a leadership development program for high school girls designed to sharpen, develop and improve leadership and professional skills. Structured activities such as interactive workshops, teambuilding, volunteer service, and community fieldtrips offer teen girls the opportunity to speak out from their own lives, learn more about themselves as leaders, and ultimately change their lives and communities
Link to Action! Through group activities girls gain knowledge and exposure to the city of Houston and are re-introduced to civic responsibility and democracy through community action projects. Girls will identify a problem or issue in the Houston community, develop a plan to help solve that problem, implement the plan, and evaluate the results. This process enables girls to translate their natural talents into active leadership through organizing, conducting, and evaluating a community service project as a collective group.

Inspiring professional women enhance the leadership development experience through professional presentations and open discussions. Guest speakers and adult mentors share their knowledge and skills regarding topics such as, college admissions, volunteerism, women in politics, women’s history and professionalism.
